Notch: Innovative Tea Packaging

A Unique Design by Sofía Enríquez

Notch is a tea packaging design that combines functionality and aesthetics, allowing users to display the product in a stylish and engaging way. Inspired by Japanese culture and minimalist design, this innovative packaging is a game-changer in the world of tea packaging.

Designed by Sofía Enríquez, Notch was created with the intention of providing a packaging solution that not only keeps the tea fresh but also adds a touch of elegance to the user's home. The triangular face at the bottom of the box allows it to be displayed on a counter or in the customer's kitchen, making it a decorative piece rather than just a functional container.

One of the key features of Notch is its cube-like figure, which optimizes the packing space for efficient distribution. However, when it comes to display, the triangular face adds a unique and interesting element. The frontal window allows consumers to observe the tea inside, while the other faces provide ample space for branding and additional information.

Notch is made from light cardboard, and the cutting lines and flaps have been meticulously designed to ensure clean and precise folding. The graphic design of the packaging was inspired by cherry blossoms and the minimalist lifestyle, giving it a sophisticated and modern look. The metallic effect was achieved using Adobe Photoshop, but other techniques such as metallic inks, stamping, foil, or serigraphy can also be used to achieve the same effect.

Measuring 100mm in width, depth, and height, Notch features a 45-degree angle on its triangular face, adding to its visual appeal. When the product is placed with one of its square faces lying on a surface, it functions as a conventional box. However, when the triangular face is used to make the product stand, it becomes a captivating display piece. The flip top on one of the square faces allows for easy opening and closing of the packaging.

The design of Notch was originally created in April 2015 in Chihuahua, Mexico, and was further modified in August 2017. The designer conducted extensive research on Japanese origami and box patterns to achieve the final result. Overcoming the challenge of creating something different from conventional tea packages while maintaining functionality was a significant achievement for the designer.

Notch has received recognition for its innovative design and practicality. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018, which honors well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Notch stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing both fulfillment and positive feelings to consumers.

Notch is not just a tea packaging; it is a work of art that enhances the tea-drinking experience. With its unique design and attention to detail, it is sure to impress tea enthusiasts and design enthusiasts alike.
